Viktor Gyokeres transfer 'moves forward' as Manchester United handed major update
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Arsenal appear eager to gain an edge over rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Clube de Portugal star Viktor Gyokeres, if latest reports are to be believed. With the summer transfer window set to open on June 1, Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that Arsenal want to lure the Swedish striker with a move and have already offered him a £7million-a-year (€8m) salary after tax. The report goes on to say that Arsenal haven't made a formal bid yet and are not expected to do so immediately, as Gyokeres is focused on winning the Liga Portugal title and the Taca de Portugal with the Lions. Despite his full focus on the task, it's said that Gyokeres is aware of the latest developments. It's thought that the proposal has been received as 'acceptable'. Sporting's final match of the season is on May 25, and the Gunners are said to be 'ready' to table a €70–€75 million (£58m–£63m) offer once the campaign concludes. Adding a further update to Gyokeres' situation, The Athletic's David Ornstein told NBC Sports: "Viktor Gyokeres remains in the mix for Arsenal. He is a player that Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta really likes. "He is probably the best value for money option out there but the time is ticking and other interest is building. We know that Ruben Amorim at Manchester United likes him so let’s see if Arsenal move on that sooner, rather than later." Gyokeres has had another remarkable season, scoring 52 goals in 50 games across all competitions. MEN Sport understands that the current plan is to pursue Ipswich Town's Liam Delap during the summer transfer window. Despite Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League , Delap impressed during the campaign and is viewed as a realistic option to strengthen their front line.
