Vince McMahon Changed Controversial WrestleMania 39 Finish Last Minute: Report
@Source: newsweek.com
WWE WrestleMania 39 in 2023 from Inglewood, California, was the start of the end for Vince McMahon having influence on WWE's main roster creative.He had previously stepped down in the summer of 2022 due to a hush-money scandal resulting in Triple H taking over. However, McMahon forced his way back into the company in January 2023. McMahon was gone the following January when the Janel Grand lawsuit came out, resulting in his resignation as CEO.Early in 2023, reports surfaced indicating that McMahon's presence was still being felt behind the scenes, particularly in the lead-up to WrestleMania 39. This influence manifested in various ways, including talent being sidelined from television and last-minute alterations to planned storylines.One significant change directly attributed to McMahon involved the WrestleMania 39 match between Finn Balor and Edge (now known as Cope in AEW).Fightful reports that Balor was originally slated to defeat Edge, culminating their feud with Judgment Day, which Edge had created.However, McMahon intervened, insisting on Edge's victory, despite Edge himself advocating for Balor to win. This decision, made against the original creative direction, showcased McMahon's continued control over key storylines and outcomes.The controversial outcome of the Cody Rhodes versus Roman Reigns match at WrestleMania 39 also fueled speculation that McMahon made a last minute change.While McMahon did endorse the decision, sources indicate that the plan for Reigns to retain the championship was in place for an extended period.More news: Jade Cargill Involved In Backstage Confrontation With WWE Star: ReportFor many, Rhodes should have won the match and title. Instead, WWE saved it for a year later at WrestleMania 40 in 2024. To get it done, Rhodes had to win another Royal Rumble and overcome Bloodline rules.However, McMahon's direct involvement in the Raw after WrestleMania 39 was undeniable. The show was reportedly subjected to extensive last-minute rewrites, with one source describing McMahon's involvement as akin to a "Tazmanian Devil" wreaking havoc on the script.These instances highlight the enduring impact of McMahon's creative vision on WWE, even when he was ostensibly removed from day-to-day operations.The late changes and alterations created tension and frustration amongst talent and highlighted the difference between the creative direction of McMahon and the current regime.More WWE News:
