Vinod Kambli’s health struggle continues, brother shares emotional update

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli once hailed as one of the brightest batting prodigies of the 1990s is facing yet another tough battle this time with his health. Months after being hospitalised for a brain clot the 52-year-old continues to struggle with his speech leaving fans and the cricketing fraternity deeply concerned.
His younger brother Virendra Kambli has now shared an emotional update urging supporters to keep the former star in their prayers as he continues on the long road to recovery.
A Difficult Battle
Kambli who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane on December 21 2024 after suffering from a urinary infection and cramps. Further examinations revealed blood clots in his brain leading to an extended stay. He was discharged on January 1 2025 and has since been recuperating at his Bandra home.
Brotherrsquos Words of Hope
Speaking on The Vickey Lalwani Show Virendra shared ldquoHe is home now but still has difficulty speaking. He is stable but treatment is ongoing. It will take time but he is a champion and I believe he will come back. I just request everyone to keep him in their prayers.rdquo
Virendra added that Kambli underwent 10 days of rehab with complete body check-ups and physiotherapy to help him walk again. While his speech remains slurred he is showing gradual improvement.
An Icon Facing Tough Times
Kamblirsquos struggles have been widely discussed in cricketing circles especially after a recent video with Sachin Tendulkar highlighted his weakened condition. Once hailed as one of Indiarsquos brightest batting talents in the 1990s his post-retirement years have been marked by health issues including two heart attacks in 2013 as well as battles with addiction and financial difficulties.
Despite these hardships the cricket fraternity has rallied around him. With support from legends like Sunil Gavaskar Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar and with fansrsquo prayers there remains hope that Vinod Kambli can overcome this latest challenge.
