@Source: news18.com
A combined total of 430 runs were scored when Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore met at a packed Wankhede Stadium on Monday night in IPL 2025. 221 of those were hammered by RCB who barely managed to be on the winning side when an onslaught by Mumbai Indians batters brought the hopes of host crowd alive. Swift fifties from Virat Kohli (67) and skipper Rajat Patidar (64) combined with a late cameo by wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma (40 off 19) helped RCB post a mammoth target of 222 runs on the scoreboard. Mumbai Indians paled in their response, struggling to get going at 99/4 in 12 overs before captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma cut loose. Pandya’s 42 off 15 balls along with Varma’s 56 off 29 balls helped MI reach the 200 mark but the target proved to be too much for Pandya’s men to chase. In the end, RCB registered a narrow 12-run victory over a spirited MI. A moment to heave a sigh of relief, fans from the RCB camp instead set out to remind commentator Sanjay Manjrekar about Kohli’s innings. So what exactly happened? Virat Kohli Delivers Opening batter Virat Kohli flicked returning bowler Jasprit Bumrah for a stunning six on MI bowler’s second delivery of the night to set the tone for RCB. Kohli looked every bit at ease as he scored boundaries at regular intervals to keep the scoreboard ticking despite losing his partner Phil Salt to Trent Boult early on. Kohli extended his stay at the crease till the 15th over as he smacked 8 boundaries and 2 maximums in his 42-ball 67. Bumrah is at his peak. So, Bumrah’s stock is up there. Virat’s stock used to be there. So at this moment it is not best vs best,” Manjrekar remarked. Fans React With Stats Manjrekar’s remark did not make much noise on social media but once Kohli’s masterclass was underway, the batter’s fans were quick to respond to the commentator’s jibe with numbers and stats. “Sanjay Manjrekar said, “Virat was at its peak 5-6 years ago”. Meanwhile Virat Kohli Since 2022 • Most Runs in T20 World Cup 2022 • Most Runs In WC 2023 • POTT In WC 2023 • Most ICC POTM (07) • ODI Cricketer of the year • Orange Cap In IPL 2024 • POTM In T20 WC final,” a user on ‘X’ noted. “Manjrekar Ji you said Virat Kohli best 5 – 6 saal pehle the? Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap last year ie IPL 2024 making 741 runs with an average of 62 & SR of 155,” another added. Sanjay Manjrekar said, "Virat was at its peak 5-6 years ago". Meanwhile Virat Kohli Since 2022 • Most Runs in T20 World Cup 2022• Most Runs In WC 2023• POTT In WC 2023• Most ICC POTM (07 )• ODI Cricketer of the year• Orange Cap In IPL 2024• POTM In T20 WC final… — Krishna. Making his stance clear, Sidhu said: “It is not possible for the focal point to shift away from Virat Kohli. It is my opinion. Last time when my friend called me up I asked him ‘how was the match yesterday?’ to which he responded by saying ‘Virat Kohli got out, I switched off the match’.” This is what he has earned, Sidhu added. “When I used to visit the village, there was a person who used to ask me ‘What game do you play?’ I responded by saying I play cricket. He then asked ‘Was it the same Kapil Dev played?’” Sidhu added that nobody was bigger in stature than Kohli in modern times. “These are his views,” Manjrekar politely responded. Earlier, Manjrekar made news when he called Glenn Maxwell “Halley’s Comet” suggesting that the Aussie batter, who plays for Punjab Kings, performed once in a blue moon. “Halley’s Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061,” Manjrekar said while speaking on JioHotstar.
