MOSCOW, April 24. /TASS/. Chief Executive Officer of Russia’s second-biggest lender VTB, Andrey Kostin, sees no serious prospects for return of international payment systems Visa and Mastercard to the Russian market so far.
"I don’t see huge prospects for this [return of Visa and Mastercard to the Russian market] so far. Whether an agreement with the Chinese is possible to return the operation of Union Pay was just mentioned. This issue is being discussed now, including with a number of friendly countries, on the return," he said at a business dialogue with clients.
The return of Visa and Mastercard could be possible in the context of a general removal of sanctions, Kostin noted. "I would not expect that so far," he added.
Visa and Mastercard left the Russian market in March 2022.
Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov said earlier that Visa and Mastercard might return to the country and offer their services soon.
