Wales' new-look coaching team revealed as Danny Wilson and legends called in
@Source: walesonline.co.uk
Matt Sherratt is set to add Gethin Jenkins and Danny Wilson to his backroom team for Wales' summer tour of Japan, with Leigh Halfpenny also now in contention. Sherratt is set to be officially unveiled as interim head coach next week after taking the reins for the final three games of the Six Nations . He will be joined by Wilson (forwards), Jenkins (defence), Rhys Thomas (skills), and Adam Jones (scrum) while Sherratt has also been working hard to persuade Halfpenny to come on board as a kicking coach. Harlequins head coach Wilson is very highly rated in Welsh rugby circles, having previously been in charge of Wales U20s and Cardiff while he has also held coaching roles at the Dragons and Scarlets . Jenkins is Sherratt's defence coach at Cardiff and the 44-year-old is set to take up the same role he held for two years when Wayne Pivac was in charge of Wales before he was deemed surplus to requirement by Warren Gatland . Wales legend Jones is set to continue his work at the scrum on secondment from Harlequins after impressing during the Six Nations, while Gloucester's Thomas is also set to retain a place in Sherratt's backroom team. WalesOnline understands Sherratt remains hopeful Halfpenny will come on board as a kicking coach. Halfpenny is on the verge of signing for wealthy French second division outfit Béziers, but accepting Sherratt's offer of coaching Wales for their two-Test tour of Japan should not affect that. If the former Wales full-back was to turn it down then Sherratt could ask Neil Jenkins to continue. This signals the end for much of Gatland's coaching team, with Mike Forshaw and Jonathan Humphreys not getting their contracts renewed. Wales are on a record run of 17 straight Test match defeats and the pressure is on to get back to winning ways against Eddie Jones' Japan this summer.
