NEWCOMERS Waliya in the Moresby North West Rugby League are making their intentions known after another spurring performance to edge a strong Talapia Magpies 6-4 at the Kone Tigers Oval yesterday.
The Western province men after shifting from Suburban Rugby League this season and still not being able to return to the Port Moresby Rugby League (POMRFL) are showing their class in the North Waigani competition.
Yesterday, it was another case of razzle dazzle by the elusive Waliya ball-runners as they fought back from being 0-4 down courtesy of a try to Magpies fullback Taku George.
Despite the Magpies aggressive defence, Waliya’s slippery half-back Seba Duba was able to step his way through four defenders to score a converted try to take a 6-4 lead to half-time.
In the second-half, as the rain pelted down, both sides were unable to reach the scoreline to give Waliya the two point win.
Playing well for Waliya in the forwards were Jerry Dabema, Peter Junior, Freeman Sul, Maven Dedewa, Junior Nago and Mikes Eddie.
While in the backs apart from the usual standout performance from Duba, Frank Chila and Aidan Pato featured in the win as well.
In the other match, Uni Youngsters led 2-0 from a penalty conversion to Nicholas Dugumi in the first-half, but were not able to hold out Lakeside Crushers from the scoring the winning try on the stroke of full-time to win 4-2.
