A day after a social media post sparked a heated debate claiming that Hindi had been removed from signboards at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, the airport authority has issued a clarification. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which manages the airport, stated that the Kannada language was added to the digital signboards to help local travellers navigate the airport “more easily and comfortably”. BIAL had also strongly denied the accusation that Hindi had been removed. In a statement released on Sunday, the authority said, “There has been no change to the flight information display system. In line with established practices, the displays continue to feature English and Kannada to assist passengers effectively. Additionally, signage throughout the terminals is displayed in English, Kannada, and Hindi.” A follow-up statement released on Monday provided further details about the update. The airport operator explained that adding Kannada to the digital boards allows passengers to view real-time flight updates — including departures, arrivals, and delays — in their native language.
