Arsenal kick off the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by welcoming Real Madrid to the Emirates tonight. The Gunners face the Spanish champions for only the third time in history, with each side fighting for a place in the final four. Mikel Arteta’s side impressed in the round of 16, demolishing PSV Eindhoven 7-1 across two legs. Real Madrid were not as convincing in their second leg and were forced to secure a quarter-final spot in a penalty shootout against local rivals Atlético Madrid. Real trailed 1-0 on the night for more than 90 minutes after Atlético’s Conor Gallagher found the net in less than 30 seconds, but ultimately won 4-2 on penalties. The competition remains Arsenal’s only chance at silverware this season with Liverpool sitting 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
