Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli was at his best with the bat in the first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The 36-year-old scored 59 not out as RCB beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by seven wickets. Kohli, who had scored over 700 runs last season, is now at the top of the run-scoring charts for the IPL 2025 season. Advertisment Kohli, during the course of his knock of 59 not out, also went past 1000 runs in the IPL against KKR. There was a slight delay in play as a fan ran onto the pitch beating the security and went and met his idol. The fan was seen lying flat near Kohli"s feet and also later hugged the former India and RCB skipper. The fan in question was taken off the park before play could resume. Kohli didn"t lose his focus as he continued to pile on the runs to score yet another fifty in the IPL. The win for RCB puts them at the top of the table after the first match of the season. Chasing 175 runs to win, RCB won the game with 22 balls left to play and seven wickets in hand. Pandya, took three wickets for 29 runs from his four overs which included the huge wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for 56. The 34-year-old then got the wickets of Venkatesh Iyer for six runs and Rinku Singh for 12. These efforts earned Pandya the man of the match at the end of the game. Speaking to the host broadcasters, Krunal Pandya said, “When you play against so much crowd, I had to narrow down my focus. If I got hit, I had to get hit off a good ball. Glad that I could deliver. You have to go with the flow—how cricket is evolving. Batters have the skill set to hit sixes consistently. You also have to up your game; I have to make sure I bowl quicker. Change of pace is associated with pacersbut also I tried it.” Former KKR star Phil Salt laid the foundation with his 31-ball 56 and added 95 runs for the opening wicket with Kohli. Kolkata will next play the Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on 26th March. RCB will head home to take on Chennai Super Kings in a huge clast at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on 28th March.
