@Source: news18.com
World No. 1 Test batter Harry Brook came out to bat at No. 5 for England in the first innings of the ongoing third Test against India at Lord’s, but he failed to contribute much. The 26-year-old right-handed batter was sent back to the pavilion by world No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah in the 55th over. On the fourth ball of the 55th over of England’s first innings, Bumrah breached Brook’s defence and shattered his stumps to open his wicket account. The right-handed batter from Yorkshire, who scored 99 and 158 runs in the first innings of the last two Tests played against India, could only manage to score 11 runs from 20 balls with the help of two fours at the Home of Cricket. The clip of Bumrah’s magical delivery to breach Brook’s defence and shatter his stumps was shared by Sony Sports on X, and within no time, it went viral on the internet. Before him on the first ball after the tea break, Ravindra Jadeja removed Ollie Pope. The England Test vice-captain was caught behind by substitute wicketkeeper Dhurv Jurel. Before making his way back to the pavilion, Pope faced 109 balls and, with the help of four fours, scored 44 runs. He added 109 runs for the third wicket with Joe Root and kept Indian bowlers struggling for wickets during the afternoon session. Bumrah equals Dev’s record The wicket of Brook on Thursday helped Bumrah equal Kapil Dev’s record of taking 43 wickets for India in Tests played in England. During his 16-year-long Test career, Kapil played 13 Tests against England in England and picked up 43 wickets. On the other hand, Bumrah has 43 wickets to his name in 10 matches. Only Ishant Sharma has picked up more Test wickets for India in England against the English team. Ishant, who last played a red-ball match for India in 2021, has 48 wickets to his name in 14 Tests played so far against England in England.
