MGIQIKA and Charleston Primary Schools got the ball rolling at the Old Mutual/CABS Cricket Extravaganza, which started on Monday at the Old Mutual Cricket Excellence Centre.
The tournament, now in its sixth edition, features 40 primary school teams battling it out for honours in the Colts (Under-10) and Under-13 categories. The winning teams will proceed to the finals set for Saturday.
Tournament spokesperson, Sharon Zamba, said the build-up to the finals had started with four schools in action on Monday and more matches lined up throughout the week.
“From Monday up to Friday afternoon, different schools will be playing build-up matches. The momentum is building towards the big day on Saturday,” she said.
The tournament is sponsored by financial services institutions Old Mutual and CABS and aims to nurture young talent while promoting grassroots cricket development.
