THE performance of Wawa FC in the recent Panamex Easter Tournament in Lae has received huge support from the district.
Wau Waria MP Marsh Narewec who followed the team’s performance throughout the tournament commended the players for putting up a great performance that brought strong support from the district.
“Our team performed exceptionally well and I’m proud of their performance for displaying great sportsmanship in the spirit of the game throughout the tournament,” a proud Narewec said.
“It’s not about winning the game but displaying true sportsmanship that made every citizen of the Wau Waria district proud of the team,” he said.
“We are working on developing sports in the district and we aim to set up a national soccer league team by 2028 amongst the long-term plans.”
Narewec added that they are now preparing their players going forward to towards achieving their goal to have a district team participating in the professional soccer league. He also said besides soccer the district is also assisting to develop rugby league as well.
“We have identified a few talents during the Kumul Blo Space tournament last year and three of our players were selected for the Waghi Tumbe franchise team in the Digicel EXXONMobil Cup completion this year.”
