Former Birmingham City manager Wayne Rooney is set to lace up his boots once again for Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025. The 39 year old, who recently served as a pundit on BBC's Match of the Day, has been keeping himself busy since leaving Plymouth Argyle in December. He's also been part of Amazon Prime's Champions League coverage. Now, it seems Rooney will be back on the pitch for Soccer Aid this summer. His last professional appearance was for Derby County in November 2020, but he's ready to roll back the years nearly five years after his retirement. The match against Rest of the World at Old Trafford is scheduled for Sunday, June 15. Other former pros set to join Rooney include Joe Hart, Jermain Defoe, Gary Neville, Jill Scott, Toni Duggan, Leonardo Bonucci, Steph Houghton and David James. Non-footballing celebrities such as Alex Brooker, Louis Tomlinson, Mo Farah, Paddy McGuinness, Sam Quek, Sam Thompson, Tom Grennan, Tyson Fury and Vicky McClure are also involved. More participants are expected to be announced soon, with Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott presenting, reports Derbyshire Live . Harry Redknapp, another former Blues boss, is tipped to join England's coaching staff, having been a part of Soccer Aid for several years. Last summer, he was part of a five-team management set-up that included ex-Derby manager Frank Lampard and Robbie Williams. Rooney, who spent nearly two years at Pride Park, won 24 of his 85 matches before leaving after the club's relegation to League One. He took over from Philip Cocu midway through the 2020/21 season, successfully keeping Derby in the Championship despite inheriting a team in the relegation zone. Despite a challenging second season which saw Derby relegated to League One for the first time since 1986 due to a 21-point deduction and a transfer embargo, Rooney's ability to keep the Rams in contention until the 43rd game of the season was commendable. However, Rooney left Derby in the summer of 2022 as they prepared for life in League One. After a brief stint with DC United in the MLS, he returned to England in October 2023 to take up the role of head coach at Blues. Rooney's tenure was disastrous, with the manager being dismissed after securing only two victories in his 15 matches at the helm. He then moved to Plymouth in May of last year, but his stint there lasted less than nine months. Overall, Rooney's managerial career has seen him achieve a win rate of just 25.3 per cent.
