We tried the Manchester bakery that has queues down the street
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Stumble across a queue in Manchester city centre and it usually means some free samples are being dished out. Either that or its Record Store Day. Been there done that. But just metres away from the vinyl stores that attract such crowds for the annual event, there's one place that's attracting queues all year round. Buzzy Bee opened in the heart of the Northern Quarter last year, bringing their cookies, brownies and other sweet bakes to the buzzing district that's home to the likes of Afflecks and Bird & Blend Tea Co. With the success of their flagship Buzzy Bee bakery in Wilmslow, sisters Millie and Lydia Walter took the leap to open the second site in September and haven't looked back. There's a cafe here, but while the place looked like the perfect place to relax - a cute yellow bistro table near the front door had our name on it - we didn't have time to stop. We were on a grab and go mission, which would have been a lot speedier had we not taken so long to decide which of the delectable treats to take home. Millie first made her mark at artisan markets in the region with her brookies, cookies, brownies and donuts - pictures of which have previously gone viral online, with hundreds of thousands of views on social media. Join our Family WhatsApp group HERE With Lydia joining in 2019, bringing with her a background in sales and marketing, the business quickly become even bigger. Inside the cafe, a light and airy space with white tiles dotted with illustrations of bees lining the wall, we discovered brookies of all flavours neatly displayed in rows inside the glass cabinet - Nutella and white chocolate, chocolate orange, raspberry and white chocolate, Malteser and Biscoff - priced £4. You only have to look at them - little mountains of soft cookie dough encasing big gooey centres of those incredible flavours - to know how good these are. But it was a different product, one we'd bought just one of, that had us fighting over it - the Biscoff Blondie. A giant slab consisting of a white chocolate blondie base, stuffed with Biscoff spread, topped with white chocolate ganache and Biscoff crumb. It was worth every bit of the £4.75. There are all kinds of flavours for the blondies too, including Cadbury Caramel, Kinder and Nutella, and Crunchie. It's the white chocolate and raspberry brookie that's most popular among customers here - vanilla dough, stuffed with a blonde, white chocolate spread and fresh raspberries. They also sell celebration cakes and dessert pots including cheesecake and tiramisu. With bakes as good as this, it's hardly surprising people are willing to queue. Wilmslow may well be the original home for Buzzy Bee, but here in Manchester, this place is flying high. Buzzy Bee is open 12pm to 6pm Monday to Friday and 11am to 5pm at weekends. Postal boxes can be ordered nationwide and are sent out every Wednesday.
