‘We’ve got his back’: Daley stands behind ‘Blues grub’ Leniu

“I don’t think the crowd are going to jump in and do anything. He’s fine. He embraces those challenges pretty well. You want him to play with controlled aggression. That’s who he is. We’ve got his back.”
Leniu will be expecting to be booed when he comes off the bench at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night. The reason for the hostility towards him dates back to the Roosters’ clash with Brisbane in Las Vegas last year when the fiery prop called Broncos playmaker Ezra Mam a “monkey”.
His status as public enemy No.1 in Queensland was cemented last month when he clashed with Maroons great Johnathan Thurston, who was critical of the eight-match ban Leniu received for the Mam incident, saying he should have been rubbed out for longer.
Queensland Rugby League CEO Ben Ikin stirred the pot when he said last week: “‘JT’ is one of the most beloved figures in Queensland, and I’ve no doubt that everyone who’ll wear the Maroons jersey next Wednesday saw what happened at Suncorp Stadium that night.
