What to Watch This Weekend (March 1-2): 8 Best New Movies and Shows to Stream Now (Including a New Mindy Kaling-Produced Project with a Starry Cast!)
@Source: people.com
March is here, and with it comes new TV and movies for you to binge — and the culmination of it all in Hollywood's biggest night!
This weekend, March 1-2, features a wide array of options on Netflix, from the return of a docuseries featuring over 15 golfers to the premiere of another one of Mindy Kaling's addicting sitcoms.
True crime also never ends, with Peacock shedding light on the case of Ruby Franke, the disgraced family vlogger who was found guilty of abusing her children.
And, in case that wasn't enough, Sunday night marks the end of a buzzy award season as Hollywood's elite gather at the Dolby Theater for the Oscars! We'll be eagerly watching — not just to see who is taking home the grand prize in the hotly contested race for Best Picture, but also to be the first to know when something culture-changing happens (read: 2022's slap heard across the world and 2014's iconic selfie).
And there's more! Here's a list of the 8 best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them.
Running Point
Inspired by Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss — who inherited the team from her father – Running Point tells the story of Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson), who is suddenly put in charge of staple L.A. basketball team, the Waves.
The latest Kaling-produced comedy features a starry cast including Brenda Song, Justin Theroux, Max Greenfield, Chet Hanks and Jay Ellis. Ahead of the show's premiere on Feb. 27, Hudson told PEOPLE she was drawn to the role because it's "a much more full, honest portrayal of a woman's life than just the pursuit of love."
Watch Running Point on Netflix.
Devil in the Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke
Over a year after Franke, a popular YouTube family vlogger, was arrested, her husband, Kevin Franke, and two of her children, Shari and Chad, are opening up in a three-part docuseries on Hulu, which was released Feb. 27.
“There's still a lot of pain,” Kevin told PEOPLE ahead of the documentary's release of where he and the family are now. “There's still a lot of healing that I work on each day, but it just looks and feels different now.”

Full Swing season 3
On a lighter note, we've got something for sports fans this week — and, even though it's golf, it's a juicy one!
Season 3 of Full Swing hit Netflix on Feb. 25 featuring a look at over 15 professional golf players from tensions ahead of their tournaments to their personal live, including behind-the-scenes moments of Rory McIlroy's ups and downs (and near divorce) with his wife, Erica Stoll.
Watch season 3 of Full Swing on Netflix.
Survivor season 48
Yes, you read that right: Survivor is back for its 48th season after debuting in 2000. If you're obsessed with Traitors and looking for more survivalist game shows, look no further than this fan-favorite series, which boasts over 70 Emmys.
This season marks the 16th in a row to be filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji — but if you think the contestants are enjoying a Mai Tai on the beach, you would be greatly mistaken.
Watch Survivor on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS, streaming next day on Paramount+.
Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy
Another tragic story made its way to a streaming platform this week as Peacock released a documentary looking back at Matthew Perry's October 2023 death and the five people arrested in connection with it.
In it, Martin Estrada, the former United States Attorney for the State of California Central District, claimed that the actor received 27 shots of ketamine in his final three days, among other alarming details.

Toxic Town
This Netflix original movie is based on the true story of a group of mothers who came together in a U.K. town to find justice after their kids were born with ailments due to one of the worst toxic waste scandals in history.
This touching tale, released on Feb. 27, specifically focuses on three young mothers — Susan McIntyre (Jodie Whittaker), Tracey Taylor (Aimee Lou Wood), and Maggie Mahon (Claudia Jessie) — and their fight for their kids, two of whom were born with limb differences and one who died at just 4 days old.

Last Breath
For those looking to tear themselves away from their TV and laptop screens in exchange for a bigger image, check out this high pressure action movie, which was released on Feb. 28.
Last Breath — which is also based on a true story — stars Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu as deep sea divers who fight against natural elements to rescue their colleague.

97th Academy Awards
Movie lovers rejoice: Hollywood's biggest night is finally here! The 97th Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theater on Sunday night, bringing together the industry's best to celebrate another successful year in movies.
While Emilia Pérez leads with 13 nominations, the night promises to be full of surprises as the biggest awards have been spread across nominees throughout the season. Will everyone's favorite leading man — and three-time nominee — Timothée Chalamet take home his first Oscar? And will industry veteran Demi Moore win her first award after a storied career? Tune in to find out!
Watch the Oscars live on March 2 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and Hulu.
