What to watch this weekend. Credit: Warner Bros. / Netflix Friday is here and with it another slate of fun shows and movies to watch as you cozy up inside on a chill winter evening. Actually, it’s been super warm here in the mountains all winter until this weekend. We finally got some real snow, enough to shutdown schools just ahead of Spring Break, and I plan on taking full advantage of the frosty weather. As always, I’ve scoured the internet and the myriad streaming services we subscribe to these days for all the best new shows and movies for you, dearest readers, to enjoy. If you have any tips or I missed something, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. You can check out last weekend’s streaming guide right here. ForbesWhat To Watch This Weekend: New Shows And Movies To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV And MoreBy Erik Kain What’s New & Notable This Weekend Deli Boys (Hulu) Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh star as two Pakistani-American brothers who discover that their family’s wealth is thanks to their father’s life of crime. Suddenly thrust into a criminal world they are in no way prepared for, the brothers must adapt or die. The comedy series sounds a bit like The Gentlemen on Netflix and looks quite funny. Chaos: The Manson Murders (Netflix) Erroll Morris’s new Netflix documentary on Charles Manson and the Manson Family is based on Tom O’Neill and Dan Piepenbring’s book CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties. I haven’t read this one, but it sounds like it sheds a lot of new light on the story, and on the most popular tale of the Manson murders, Vincent Bugliosi’s Helter Skelter. Just how much was Manson involved in the CIA? What kind of mind control experiments were going on? If you have a mind for conspiracy theories, definitely give this one a shot. The Righteous Gemstones (HBO / Max) I watched the first season of The Righteous Gemstones way back when it first came out in 2019 and then . . . just never got back around to it, so I’m not three seasons behind. I do remember really enjoying the story of the megachurch scammers. The series was created by Danny McBride, who also stars as one of the sons of televangelist, Eli Gemstone (John Goodman). It’s a dark comedy with a great cast of characters including Walton Goggins as Eli’s brother-in-law Baby Billy Freeman. Season 4 is set to be the show’s last. The first episode drops this Sunday. Mickey 17 (In Theaters) South Korean director Bong Joon-ho is best known for his Oscar-winning film, Parasite, which was genuinely great if also deeply messed up and depressing. His new film, Mickey 17, is about an “expendable” soldier named Mickey—played by the excellent Robert Pattinson, who keeps picking fantastic, oddball roles much like his former Harry Potter co-star, Daniel Radcliffe. Mickey, along with other expendables, is sent to the planet Nilfheim to fight an alien race of monstrous creatures in order to make way for human civilization. The gimmick is that these expendables die and are “re-printed” with most of their memories intact. It’s basically a “roguelite” video game turned into a movie. The film also stars Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo. It looks like a lot of fun. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (Netflix) Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is one of my favorite fantasy movies of all time, up there with Willow and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy as a movie I can watch over and over and over again. It’s wonderful if you’re a D&D nerd like me, but its appeal goes well beyond that thanks to the strong cast of characters, smart writing, plenty of delightful humor and a genuinely moving story. This movie didn’t do all that well in theaters and it deserves a much bigger audience. Now that it’s finally on Netflix, it might just get one. Please watch this if you enjoy fun action and a little bit of cinematic magic. You can read my review here. Sicario (Netflix) Directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Taylor Sheridan, Sicario is a gripping, powerful, violent tour de force about the drug war. Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro star. This came out in 2015 but just landed on Netflix and it’s definitely worth a watch (or a rewatch). Bonus: Watch A Gene Hackman Movie Hackman and his wife passed away last week in New Mexico, and it’s a good time to remember the beloved actor and celebrate his life by watching one of his many great films. There are lots to choose from, but some of my favorites include The Royal Tenenbaums (Prime Video), Unforgiven (AMC+), Mississippi Burning (Pluto TV) and The French Connection (Prime Video). What I’m Watching Weekly Severance Season 2 (Apple TV) Severance continues to be the best thing on TV, as I’m sure I’ve told you all too many times to count. That being said, I wasn’t a huge fan of the latest episode, which takes the story in a direction that makes me . . . somewhat nervous. Still, one bad apple—and it’s not even that bad—does not spell doom and gloom. Apple TV’s excellent dystopian sci-fi series is a must-watch. Yellowjackets (Paramount+) Yellowjackets began life as a dark, mysterious premium TV show with some welcome moments of comic relief. It has devolved into a campy, weirdly goofy and almost entirely directionless mess. I keep watching because I want to know what happens and because hope springs eternal. The story of a girls’ soccer team stranded in a mysterious wilderness still has potential to return to the creepy greatness of its first season. We shall see. The White Lotus (HBO / Max) The White Lotus has been a bit slow this season, but the Thailand setting is fantastic and the character drama is genuinely some of the best out there. Let’s just say that I remain entirely intrigued by these people and where each of their stories will go. Part crime show, part black comedy, Mike White’s brilliant anthology series has yet to disappoint. Reacher Season 3 (Prime Video) Reacher had a banger of a first season, a stinker of a second season, and so far Season 3 is . . . just fine. It’s not nearly as crackling as the first, but it’s a big step up from the second. While that doesn’t make it a return to form, Alan Ritchson is still fun as the hulking Jack Reacher, and as a popcorn action series it works well enough. Just don’t think too hard about any of it and you’ll have fun. Invincible (Prime Video) One of the best superhero shows on TV, Invincible’s third season is airing weekly on Prime Video. Frankly, this is a better show than Amazon’s other superhero parody series, The Boys, and a much more serious one despite being animated (it’s no kids cartoon, that’s for sure). A great cast helps a lot, but the writing is just top-notch. The Pitt (HBO / Max) I’m really enjoying HBO’s The Pitt, a new medical drama that takes the 24 format and gives us one new hour of a double ER shift in Pittsburgh each episode. I’m not even a fan of medical dramas (I’ve seen exactly one episode of ER) but this one has me hooked! Five episodes remain. 1923 Season 2 (Paramount+) Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star in Taylor Sheridan’s second Yellowstone prequel about an earlier generation of Duttons fighting to save the ranch. I haven’t watched the show yet, but it’s earned high marks from critics (100% for Season 2) and much lower scores from audiences (51% on Rotten Tomatoes). It seems a lot of viewers have grown bored of the story or find Sheridan’s writing too predictable at this point. Others complain that the second season has too much gratuitous violence and nudity. Suffice to say, it’s divisive, which is no surprise for a Sheridan production. What did I miss? What are you watching these days? What should I put on this list or add to my backlog? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook. Further Reading From Yours Truly: Check out last weekend’s streaming guide here. NYTs Connections has some fun Severance Easter Eggs.
