AUSTIN, Texas -- The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas Longhorns are two teams that are trending in opposite directions with the NCAA tournament quickly approaching. Alabama has been one of the best teams in the country all season, while Texas has struggled in SEC play. They’ll square off Tuesday at 9 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. It’s not an accident that Alabama (20-3, 9-1 SEC) is the No. 2 ranked team in the country. The Crimson Tide’s three losses came against Oregon, Purdue and Ole Miss. They opened the season 6-2 and have won 14 of 15 games since, including wins against ranked opponents like North Carolina, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Mississippi State. Texas (15-9, 4-7 SEC), meanwhile, has been on the wrong side of many of those conference games against ranked teams. They beat Mizzou and split matchups with Texas A&M, but fell against Auburn, Tennessee, Florida and Ole Miss. UConn and Ohio State are also on the list of teams the Longhorns have lost to, and they dropped their two latest games against Arkansas and Vanderbilt. They’ll have to win Tuesday to prevent a three-game losing skid, and with Kentucky on the horizon, the road ahead isn’t getting any easier. Tre Johnson leads Texas at 19 points per game, while two other Longhorns also average double figures. One of those guys is Arthur Kaluma who’s averaging 13.4 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds. Mark Sears is the head of the household for Alabama. He leads the way at 17.8 points and 5.0 assists per game, but the Crimson Tide have six players averaging double figures. That list includes Grant nelson, who is second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points and leads the way with 8.2 rebounds per game.
