A Nigerian, Temitayo Olatunde, has said he became an ambassador of the ONE Campaign in the United Kingdom to solicit aid for Africa.
He said the campaign gave him opportunities to meet British politicians and other foreign advocates in charge of grants and funds.
Olatunde made this known in an interview with PUNCH Diaspora Tales on Thursday.
Olatunde, who is the Director of Temvert Empowerment Foundation, said he was impoverished while growing up in Nigeria, which motivated him to support thousands of school children in his home country.
“Through my foundation, we’ve provided over 5,000 school materials for kids, because we believe that if they have access to quality materials, they’ll be able to perform well. Our focus is public schools.
“The schools that have benefitted from these initiatives were government-owned primary and secondary schools in Oyo, Osun, and Ogun states.”
Speaking about his humble beginning, he said, “There was a time that I had a backlog of unpaid school fees for four semesters, and was thinking of dropping out. My classmates started contributing money for me.
“I met a student pastor who also helped me. I squatted in school for four years. So, this foundation and advocacy work that I do are emotional for me. It’s not just a job for me. I’m passionate about helping students with them.”
Olatunde has a master’s degree in International Relations from University of Lincoln, England.
