I am running the Boston Marathon because running is my sanctuary — a sacred space where I can process my thoughts and emotions. I began running in my last year of high school, initially to improve my soccer skills, but it soon became a source of solace and clarity. The more I ran, the more I came to cherish that quiet time, allowing me to reflect and gather my thoughts.
Transitioning to college was challenging, and during a particularly difficult period, I found solace in my daily runs. They became my lifeline, a time when I could extend kindness and grace to myself. Running helped me navigate a depressive season, teaching me to recognize my worth in moments when hope felt distant. Committing to a marathon — once thought impossible — was a turning point, showcasing the incredible potential of the human spirit.
The Boston Marathon represents the spirit of perseverance. It’s a celebration of individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities coming together to achieve what was once unimaginable. For me, running was not just a physical challenge but a path to healing from an eating disorder and embracing the beauty of movement amid nature. It ignited a passion within me to help others find their own light, leading me toward a future in psychiatry where I can support people in feeling seen, heard, and loved.
After attending the Boston Marathon last year, witnessing the remarkable community of runners inspired me. I felt immense gratitude for being part of this movement and knew I had to return. As I train for my second Boston, my heart is full of hope and excitement for the journey ahead, and I look forward to celebrating this incredible event for years to come.
