Why Indians Are Tearing Apart Sky Sports Cricket For 'Lazy' Analysis On Jasprit Bumrah
@Source: news18.com
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s frontline pacer, rested out the second Test between England and India when the visitors were down 0-1 in the five-match series. His absence became a hotly debated topic in the cricket community, and fans of the sport couldn’t wrap their heads around the bowler’s decision to sit out. Ravi Shastri shared a similar sentiment, as the former Head Coach of India expressed his surprise over the mic while seated in the commentary box at Edgbaston. “This is a very important match, they’ve had a week off. I’m little surprised Bumrah is not playing this game. It should be taken out of the player’s hand. It should be the captain and the coaching staff that should decide who should be playing the 11. This is an important game in the context of the series, he should be playing this game more than anything else,” Shastri remarked on-air. On the fifth and final day of the Edgbaston Test, history was scripted. India registered their first-ever win at the ground in their long history of playing Test cricket. The glorious win helped the visiting squad square the series at 1-1. Captain Shubman Gill smashed a double century in the first innings and followed it up with a sublime ton. On the bowling front, Bumrah’s replacement Akash Deep scalped ten English wickets across two innings while his partner in crime, Mohammed Siraj, sent seven batters back to the hut. England had lost the match by 336 runs. When the chatter and criticism around Bumrah’s exclusion died down after the relieving win, a new outrage was brimming on X. Sky Sports Cricket The English cricket broadcaster Sky Sports Cricket shared a “trivia” after India’s triumph at Edgbaston, showcasing India’s Test performances with and without Bumrah in the playing XI. The numbers indicated that India fared better in the Tests without the presence of the lethal pacer. With Bumrah, India recorded 43% wins. Without him, India’s win rate increased to a whopping 70%. They collectively asserted that the statistics were misleading. “All this stat tells you is Bumrah is often rested for easy games, especially at home. Away this includes a series vs Bangladesh and the WI. At home this includes Afghanistan, WI, SA, Bangladesh, (sic)” wrote @MccaghreyJames on X in response. “Him not playing in India drastically tilted this stat to the other side,” another voice wrote. A user on X, who goes by the handle @cricrohit, called out the broadcaster over publishing a “lazy analysis” while also claiming that the numbers displayed were wrong. “Two points 1- can’t believe a reputed broadcaster put out such a lazy analysis. 2- can’t believe they blatantly copied a random tweet. How do I know they copied it? Because both made the same error- Bumrah has actually been part of 4 drawn games (not 5).” “This is why I say that just numbers don’t tell the whole truth, you need to the context to get the whole truth. He was rested a lot at home rightly so, and played a lot away, where we don’t have the greatest of records, his own record is superb. That’s why numbers are so skewed! (sic)” lamented X user @KOCricket528. Jasprit Bumrah is set to play the third Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground today (Thursday). The last time the two nations met at the iconic ground, India registered a memorable 151-run victory. KL Rahul was adjudged Player of the Match for his 129 in India’s first innings. Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets in each of the England innings.
