Why Mitchell Starc Is Getting Online Support For Asking Indian Fan To 'Go Away'
@Source: news18.com
Arrogant. Rude. Entitled. Mitchell Starc was called none of these when an Indian fan, seemingly star struck, approached the Australian seamer. With a phone in his hand, the fan taped Starch as he was fetching his kit to load up on a trolley. The Delhi Capitals seamer Mitchell Starc was at the airport on Thursday ahead of the Delhi Capitals Vs Gujarat Titans clash in Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. The video of the incident soon went viral across social media platforms and the viewers decided to side with the cricketer.
So why exactly did Indian fans support Starc when bashing celebrity online doesn’t require a second thought?
Starc mouthed “go away” as the fan, with the phone in his hand, approached the star cricketer, and recorded the brief interaction.

Video Goes Viral
As is the case, the video recorded by the fan hit the social media platforms and started doing numbers online. The fan-recorded video was also shared on Reddit where commenters had a field day, questioning the need to hound a celebrity in public space. Then, it turned into a debate about India Vs rest of the world treating celebrities differently.
“itna beizzat hone ke baad bhi upload karne ki himmat rakhi bhai ne (Despite getting humiliated, the fan had the audacity to upload the video online),” wrote one Reddit user on r/ipl subreddit.
“I met Starc with my friends at the SCG during aus vs pak test match and he told one of my friends who was begging for his signature to shut up, (sic) another typed. “People should stop worshipping celebrities, especially Indians,” a user responded to the comment.

“Celebrity worship is very very common in most countries. I was working in an event and Taylor swift was going to be there for the event, she come in the evening at 5 pm or something. However these fans had lined up for the event from the previous night itself like 3 am onwards or something like that, they got their own foldable chairs, etc etc. You are saying celebrity worship isn’t common, it is very very common. But it depends on the celebrity obviously (sic).”
Secondhand Embarrassment
The video brought secondhand embarrassment to the cricket community, to put it mildly.
““Sir hello” Prolly the most embarrassing thing from this video, (sic).”
“The guy’s literally trying to get his luggage out, is anyway a little bothered by the incidents over the past few weeks, has a wife and family to care for, and has a flight to catch. Do people really lack that amount of common sense? Give the man some privacy, he’s with his family – and people are standing like scarecrows taking videos of him and bothering him,” another user reasoned before adding, “It’s fine if you do this around a stadium, or at least a meet & greet event. You don’t harass an individual and his family at an airport especially when they’re leaving in distress.”
Return Of IPL
If you are wondering why there are so many Instagram posts of cricketers sharing their boarding passes of flights bound to India or are simply being spotted at Indians airports, it’s because the latest edition of IPL is scheduled to resume on May 17, Saturday. The cash-rich league had been temporarily suspended as tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in the past couple of weeks.
BCCI announced the revised schedule for the remainder of IPL 2025. The final that was set to take place on May 25 has now been moved to June 3.
