'Why Should India Be Nice To England?': Ben Stokes Called Out For Manchester Drama
@Source: news18.com
Were England right in expressing their annoyance after India turned down their offer to end the play on the final day of the 4th Test early? England great Geoffrey Boycott feels Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were within their rights to complete well-deserved hundreds after working their “socks off” through the day. Boycott advised England to develop a thick skin and not just expect opponents to stay quiet if they are “gobby enough” when it suits them. “What goes around comes around,” Boycott wrote in his column for Telegraph. “England were gobby enough when it suited them, so you can’t blame India for wanting to stay on and allow two batsmen who had worked their socks off to reach their hundreds.” “If you give it, like England do, then you have to be able to take it. I could hear them through the stump mics chipping away at India, so why should they be nice to them and agree to go off when England have had enough,” he added. Jadeja and Sundar were each a couple of hits away from reaching three figures when the final hour of play got underway. It was then that Stokes approached Jadeja offering a draw which was not accepted. An annoyed Stokes reacted by asking the allrounder if he would be happy completing his hundred against part-timers. Boycott said if he was in Jadeja or Sundar’s place, nobody would’ve been able to convince him to give up the chance of reaching century. “These India players are tough cookies. They do not take a backward step. There is no way I would have let anyone drag me off on 89 after I had worked hard all day to save the game for my team,” he wrote. “Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar deserved their hundreds. They left the ball well, played with the full face of the bat and defended their wickets at all costs. Well done,” he added.
