A woman is suing a Las Vegas hotel where her husband died in a meeting with a £775 sex worker.
Jeff Jacoby, 55, was found dead from a fentanyl overdose while staying at the Palazzo hotel in March, 2023. He was in Las Vegas for a work conference and met Cheylee Kessee, a sex worker, at the hotel bar around 1am.
His wife Jennifer Jacoby is taking legal action claiming that hotel security should have spotted that Kessee was a sex work, and allegedly working in tandem with a pimp called Kashon Glass.
It is claimed in the lawsuit presented to the District Court that Glass “walked around” a casino floor at the resort with Mr Jacoby for around 40 minutes before going with him to a cashier’s cage where Mr Jacoby withdrew $1,000.
Mr Jacoby then went up to his hotel room with Kessee at around 2.30am and she emerged just eight minutes later. It is alleged that all along she was in contact with Glass via text messages.
Ms Jacoby then called the hotel and asked for a welfare check to be made on her husband as she hadn’t heard from him in several hours. And a hotel worker found Mr Jacoby “unresponsive, slumped on the bathroom floor”, according to the lawsuit, reports Las Vegas Review-Journal.
He had died of a fentanyl overdose and had been robbed by Kessee. Ms Jacoby is suing The Palazzo's owner, Venetian Casino Resort LLC, claiming that it was partly to blame for his death. It was also alleged security guards should have warned him that he was being followed by Glass. And it was said in the lawsuit that the casino operator should have been able to identify Glass and Kessee, as they had a history of “targeting hotel guests to rob and victimise them”.
Glass and Kessee agreed to a plea deal where they admitted voluntary manslaughter and robbery. Glass was jailed for 50 years and could be paroled after 20 years while Kessee was sentenced to 20 years and could be out after eight on parole.
An obituary for Mr Jacoby stated: "He attended Moorhead High School and graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in accounting. Jeff met and married Jenny, his soulmate and twin flame in Fargo, North Dakota in 1990. Jeff went on to raise three girls which was one of the great joys of his life – from soccer games every weekend, ballet recitals, and piano practices to high school graduations, college dorm move-ins, first jobs, and a wedding.
"He was there for every moment and milestone, cheering his girls on daily. His wife, Jenny, was the greatest love of his life aside from the Lord. They went everywhere and did everything together. They loved to spend time drinking coffee and sitting out on the back porch in the morning sun together, going to church on Sunday mornings, and in more recent years, spending time together with their daughters in Denver, Austin, and Waco."
