Wildfires burn as weather heats up
@Source: minnpost.com
It’s hot all around Minnesota today, and wildfires are threatening homes and cabins. The Camp House Fire, about 35 miles north-northeast of Duluth, has been “spreading rapidly,” MPR News reports. “The Minnesota DNR classified fire danger across the entire state on Sunday as ‘extreme’ — the most serious category, indicating and ‘explosive’ situation for wildfires.” Unusually high temperatures across the state on Sunday have pushed the mercury up to 100 in northwest Minnesota, and broke a 125-year-old record in the Twin Cities, according to Bring Me The News. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is warning about high levels of ground-level ozone today, WCCO reports. It “creates the opportunity for pollutants, like those emitted by cars, power plants and refineries to react in the sunlight and create ground-level ozone, which is considered harmful by the Environmental Protection Agency.” Soccer icon and co-owner of Inter Miami David Beckham is a little hot under the collar, the BBC reports. After undergoing a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Minnesota United, our hometown club “posted a photo from the game on Instagram with the caption ‘Pink Phony Club’ — a reference to the color of Miami’s kit and the Chappell Roan song Pink Pony Club.” Beckham took umbrage with the post, impelling the Loons to “show a little respect, be elegant in triumph.” Grand Old Day is back this year in St. Paul and will feature a lineup chock full of local talent. The Star Tribune reports that “[c]ountry groovers the Cactus Blossoms, bluegrassy revelers Them Coulee Boys, R&B innovator Ashley DuBose, jazz/funk bandleader Brandon Commodore’s NRG and rock vets the 4onthefloor and the Scarlet Goodbye have all been announced as performers for Grand Old Day 2025, scheduled June 1 on Grand Avenue between Snelling Avenue and Dale Street.”
