After his brilliant performance as a batter and captain for Punjab Kings PBKS in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League IPL 2025 Shreyas Iyer has silenced critics and strengthened his case for Team Indiarsquos white-ball captaincy. Iyer scored over 600 runs and guided PBKS to the IPL 2025 final proving his credentials not just as a batter but also as a great leader. Though under Iyers captaincy Kolkata Knight Riders KKR lifted the trophy last year many believed that the real mastermind behind the scenes was mentor Gautam Gambhir and Iyer was only a remote controlled captain. However Iyer proved his doubters wrong by taking strong and independent decisions and leading PBKS from the front in IPL 2025. Recently Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the Indian team in the longest format of the game. While veteran Rohit Sharma is the captain of the ODI team explosive batter Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of the T20 team. As per sources three captains in three formats of the game is not a long term solution and the selectors are looking for a single captain in white-ball cricket.
