Wilma Salas set to reinforce PLDT in AVC Women’s Champions League

Cuban volleyball standout Wilma Salas arrived in the Philippines last night and is set to take the court with PLDT in the upcoming rebranded AVC Women’s Champions League. The tournament, scheduled to run from April 20 to 27 at the Philsports Arena, marks Salas’ return to the country and her debut with the High Speed Hitters.Salas, a former Petro Gazz import, made a significant impact on the Philippine volleyball scene during the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference. Her dynamic performance helped the Angels clinch their first-ever PVL title, earning her the Best Foreign Guest Player award for the conference.After her successful stint in the Philippines, Salas continued her professional career in Europe, playing for top-tier clubs such as KPS Chemik Police in Poland and Olympiacos S.F. Piraeus in Greece.In July 2024, Salas made a highly anticipated return to the PVL, rejoining Petro Gazz for the Reinforced Conference. Despite the team’s slow start with a 1-3 record, her leadership and on-court brilliance helped steer the Angels to the quarterfinals.One of her most memorable performances came during a career-high 40-point game against PLDT — a standout display that solidified her status as one of the league’s premier foreign players.Now, Salas brings her experience and leadership to the High Speed Hitters as they compete in the prestigious AVC Women’s Champions League. With her proven track record and undeniable talent, she is expected to play a pivotal role in PLDT’s campaign.Her move from the Angels to the High Speed Hitters marks a new chapter in her career, as she showcases her skills on a larger stage in continental club volleyball.
