Woman Admits She's 'Emotional' After Her Coworkers Forgot Her ‘Big Birthday’ — but Gave Gifts to Other People

A woman has confessed she's “confused, sad, and disappointed” after her coworkers failed to remember her “big birthday.”
Venting on Mumsnet's “Am I Being Unreasonable?” forum, the woman explained that it was her birthday earlier that week and her work colleagues “who usually celebrate these things” have “not done anything yet.”
She said another colleague recently had a similarly significant birthday, and they received both a card and cash.
"I had an email today saying there were two cards in X person's drawer to sign for a person who is leaving and another for someone else who is celebrating a significant event," she wrote, listing other examples of her colleagues honoring each other.
The woman admitted she was feeling “a bit emotional” as she asked members of the online community if she was “being unreasonable” for feeling disappointed that her birthday wasn't acknowledged.
Commenters were quick to offer her their support with many saying they, too, would be hurt if they were in her shoes.
“YANBU [you are not being unreasonable] and this is really rough and wrong, if other people's birthdays get acknowledged and yours hasn't,” said one person, adding, “It's your [manager's] fault. Are they the type to normally forget?"

“Happy belated birthday,” another commenter wrote before sharing their own experience with a forgotten important life event. “I had this [happen to me] when I went on maternity leave," they said.
"After contributing to engagements, going off [traveling] and God knows what else my team did nothing when I was actually having a baby," they continued. "On my last day, some colleagues did pull me aside and gave me a card and a gift voucher though, but clearly just from them. I was gutted. Left shortly after my mat leave ended.”
“Some people are idiots. Don’t let them bring you down,” the same person added.
Among the commenters was one person encouraging the woman to remind her officemates about the big day — and to try not to take it personally.
“[...] Drop it into the conversation if you get the chance,” the person suggested, adding, “Sometimes these things get overlooked and that’s life."
