Woman Buys Double-Decker Bus For Rs 21 Lakh, Turns It Into Her Dream Home | Watch

We are all aware of how expensive it has become to buy a house these days. In India, property prices are soaring, but in countries like the United Kingdom, the situation is even tougher. As of December 2024, the average house price in the UK had reached Rs 3 crore, making home ownership a distant dream for many. However, some people choose to think differently.
One such person is 38-year-old Lindzi, who took an unconventional route. Instead of buying a house, she bought a second-hand double-decker bus for just Rs 21 lakh (around £18,000) and transformed it into her dream home on wheels. Now, not only does Lindzi live in this unique moving house, but she also travels across the UK in it. The interiors of the bus are so stunning that you’d hardly believe it used to be a regular passenger vehicle.
Lindzi shared that as a child, she once dreamt of becoming a bus driver. Little did she know that one day, she would own a bus and live in it! “After selling my house, I decided to buy a double-decker bus. I always had this crazy idea in mind that one day I’d live in a bus,” she said in a social media post.
Without any prior DIY (do-it-yourself) experience, she took on the massive challenge of renovating the entire bus. “I just threw myself into it with all my heart. I gave it everything I had,” Lindzi said, calling the project one full of “blood, sweat, and tears.” But she added that she has always been the kind of person who commits fully to whatever she sets her mind to.
She spent nearly a year working on the bus and invested over Rs 50 lakh in the project. It now includes features like solar panels, a functioning stove, and homely interiors. The upper deck serves as her personal living space, while the lower level is a community area and a free book-swap library.

“I want to take the bus to festivals and promote literacy in places that don’t have access to libraries. It’s my way of connecting people,” she explained.
In May 2025, Lindzi passed the MOT (Ministry of Transport) test, allowing her to take the bus on the road. She also had to obtain a Category D (PCV) driving licence, which permits driving large vehicles like double-decker, single-decker, and bendy buses. Her first festival outing was on June 21, 2025.
One of the biggest challenges she faces now is the high cost of fuel. She estimates it costs around Rs 10,700 to travel 150 miles (approximately 240 kilometres). Despite that, her project has received immense praise.
Many users admired her courage and creativity. One commented, “I love it! I wish I were brave enough to do this.” Another said, “This is my dream! Congratulations!” A third added, “What an incredible achievement!”
Though maintaining a double-decker bus can be expensive, Lindzi’s story is an inspiring example of thinking outside the box. While the average house in the UK costs over Rs 3 crore, she created a beautiful and functional home, and a mobile business, for a fraction of the price.
