Police are investigating an alleged assault on Queensland's Sunshine Coast that left a 60-year-old woman with broken ribs and spinal fractures after an altercation with a dog owner.
Kathy McKenzie was walking alone on Peregian Beach about 9:15am on Tuesday when she saw a man approaching with a dog off leash, despite dogs being banned on that part of the beach.
Acting Sergeant Justin Zuanetti said Ms McKenzie confronted the man, telling him that dogs were not allowed on that beach.
When she turned around, the man allegedly crash-tackled her to the sand "similar to a rugby-style tackle", Sergeant Zuanetti said.
Ms McKenzie suffered spinal fractures, five broken ribs, a fractured ankle, and a lacerated liver.
She was taken to Nambour Hospital then transferred to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The man and his dog then fled the beach, heading north.
Police have released CCTV footage of the man in the hope someone can help identify him.
"We are seeking public assistance to hopefully try to locate and identify this male," Sergeant Zuanetti said.
He said police would consider doing patrols around nearby houses and unit complexes.
The man is described as being in his early 20s, of Caucasian appearance, and solid build.
The dog is grey and black with a solid build.
Ms McKenzie's husband, John Mummery, said the ordeal was horrible.
"When I got to the scene about two minutes later, she was barely conscious and in extreme pain," he said.
"She's still quite light-sensitive and is very emotional about the whole incident."
Police are asking anyone with information or security footage from the area at the time to come forward.
