Woman on Flight Confronts Child Over Insulting Remarks: Police Report
@Source: internewscast.com
A 46-year-old woman was taken into custody at a Florida airport after she was accused of striking a child who had called her “fat” and repeatedly commented that she “could not fit in her seat” on the aircraft. On Monday, police arrested Kristy L. Crampton, charging her with child cruelty by abuse without great bodily harm. According to a probable cause affidavit accessed by WFLY, the episode took place on a flight departing from Orlando-Sanford International Airport headed to Maryland. Before the plane took off, both Crampton and several others were escorted off the aircraft due to the dispute. The child involved informed the police that he was upset because his phone had been confiscated, prompting him to call Crampton “fat” and push her arm from the armrest, accusing her of occupying too much space. “That’s when she smacked him in the face,” the affidavit read. Two witnesses on the flight also provided statements to police. The first witness said that they saw Crampton “hitting [the victim] with her fist and then a water bottle.” Crampton then allegedly slammed the child’s head into a plane window. “The woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him,” a witness said. Police detained Crampton at the gate, where she said the child was being rude to her and “disrespectful.” On Tuesday, Crampton appeared in Seminole County, where she was released on a $10,000 bond. The judge ordered her to not contact the victim. The relationship between the defendant and child is unclear. [Feature Photo via Orlando PD]
