Davis and Kelly make eye-gauging complaint
The Blues are back in front with a try for skipper Isabelle Kelly on the left edge, but we have some breaking news from the field.
Kelly and Keeley Davis have made a complaint to referee Belinda Sharpe with an eye-gauging allegation.
We will keep you updated with any news on that, but for now NSW are ahead by four after Southwell failed to nail the conversion.

Lofipo try locks scores at Suncorp
That Southwell kick has proven costly for NSW, with the Maroons marching up field and capitalising with a try of their own.
It came from the boot of Tarryn Aiken, who put up a beautifully weighted kick for winger Julia Robinson.
Robinson beats Blues fullback Abbi Church to the ball, and bats it back for Sienna Lofipo who scores for the Maroons.

Southwell error gifts Maroons field possession
We have our first NSW error of the night, with halfback Jesse Southwell putting a bit too much on her kick.
Experienced fullback Tamika Upton catches with a boot in-goal, and the Maroons get a full set from the 20 metre line.
Upton wanted a quick tap, but her team’s a little lazy out there, and neglected to get back on side in time.

NSW score first through Sergis
The Blues get four repeat sets on the Queensland line, and finally, they capitalise on the right edge through Jess Sergis.
Sergis had flyer Jaime Chapman on her outside, but the NSW fooled Tarryn Aiken and Julia Robinson with the dummy.
The kick from Jesse Southwell on the right edge bends back in, and NSW lead 6-0 early on.

Kick-off at Suncorp Stadium
We are officially into game one of the 2025 women’s State of Origin series, with Jesse Southwell taking the kick-off for NSW.
It’s a terrible end of set from veteran halfback Ali Brigginshaw, who sends her first kick of the night over the touch line on the full.
Remember, it’s a 70-minute match, which means we have 35 minutes halves.

Johnston’s journey from the rodeo arena to the Origin cauldron
For Sharks prop Ellie Johnston, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of turning your horse around the final barrel and heading for home in the rodeo arena.
She expects the adrenaline rush of that stage will be similar to the one she’ll have when she makes her Origin debut tonight.

“The rush of adrenaline is very similar. You go into a rodeo arena, you’ve got everyone watching you, it’s nerve-wracking, and you’ve got that adrenaline,” Johnston said.
“And that’s the same as running out on a stadium, and I know it’s going to be like that at Suncorp on Thursday night.”

Will the Suncorp surface hold up?
I’ve just spotted Maroons coach Tahnee Norris, who is having a close look at the Suncorp Stadium playing surface.
It’s a case of “time will tell” with regards to the turf here at Suncorp, after ground staff ripped it up and laid down fresh grass after it copped a battering across the Anzac Day long weekend.
Does it look a little patchy? Yes. But, it’s also very dry, so I’m thinking we will be fine tonight. It won’t be until later in the weekend that it’s really tested.
Side note: assistant coach Greg Inglis is also out on the pitch with the Norris and the team, having a little chat with playmaker Tarryn Aiken ... would love to know what he’s thinking.
