World Series Champion Lance Lynn Announces Retirement After 13-Year Career

After not receiving much interest in free agency this year, 37-year-old pitcher Lance Lynn has announced his retirement from baseball on an episode of the Dymin in the Rough podcast alongside his wife.Lynn, 37, spent 13 years in the big leagues as he played for six different teams. He began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, posting 2.0-plus WAR seasons in five out of his first six years in the big leagues. He was a part of the 2011 World Series champion Cardinals team while also being named an All-Star in 2012.The righty would split the 2018 season between the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees, posting modest numbers with both clubs. In 2019, he would end up with the Texas Rangers, where he would post his best season yet.During the 2019 season, Lynn made 33 starts with a 3.67 ERA and 3.13 FIP in over 200 innings. He posted a career high 7.7 WAR and received American League Cy Young votes. During the shortened 2020 season, Lynn would receive Cy Young votes again as he made 13 starts with an ERA close to 3.00.His best season was arguably the 2021 campaign with the Chicago White Sox. He was named an All-Star and finished third in the AL Cy Young voting after posting an incredible 2.69 ERA in 28 starts.Lynn spent the last three years of his career struggling to produce, but he was still able to land a deal with the Cardinals last season, allowing him to retire in the same uniform he debuted in.The righty was best known for his loud personality and on-field antics.
