Alfie Middlemiss vowed to put on a ‘demolition job’ in his upcoming bout. Middlemiss is yet to learn who he will take on in a four-round featherweight contest at the AO Arena on the undercard of Jack Catterall vs Harlem Eubank on July 5. With the 21-year-old’s record currently standing at three points decision victories from three fights, he is now searching for his first knockout victory since making his professional debut last year. Middlemiss said: “I’m looking to do a demolition job on him to be honest. "I really want to make a statement in this fight and put on a great performance.” As the son of Coronation Street legend Phil Middlemiss, Alfie has acted in shows such as Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, even trying his hand at cricket before putting the gloves on. He said: “I was just a scrawny kid when I first walked into the boxing gym. “It’s that old saying in boxing that the first time you get hit on the nose, you either love it or you hate it, and I loved it.” The Worsley fighter trains at Walkden ABC gym and is mentored by Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis, who also train the headlining Catterall. After Middlemiss’ last two bouts taking place at the Co-op Live Arena, he looks to conquer a milestone that many of Manchester’s boxing greats before him have done. He said: “It’s been a dream of mine to fight at the AO Arena since I was a little kid after seeing all those legendary nights with people like Ricky Hatton and Anthony Crolla box there. “I’ve learnt so much from being in the gym. “There are a lot of misconceptions about boxing as it puts people on a good path and I think more amateur boxing clubs should be put around the country.” Middlemiss will look to continue his winning streak after triumphing against Alexander Morales in April. Fellow Mancunians Pat Brown and William Crolla also feature on the July 5 card.
