Having witnessed England host both previous editions—at Hampshire in 2021 and at The Oval in 2023—BCCI is now contemplating bringing the ultimate Test match to Indian soil.
The proposal was discussed during the ICC’s chief executives committee meeting in Zimbabwe, where IPL chairman Arun Dhumal represented the BCCI. With Jay Shah now serving as the ICC Chairman, taking over from Greg Barclay in December 2024, the momentum for this potential shift appears strong.
“If India reaches the next WTC final, it will be a spectacle for fans. But even if India does not feature, a match involving two top teams will still draw significant attention,” a source close to the development stated.
While the formalisation of the proposal is yet to be completed, an Indian-hosted WTC final could reshape the championship’s global appeal. Indian venues, known for their passionate crowds and diverse pitch conditions, would offer a unique challenge for competing teams. Cricket lovers across the country will be eagerly awaiting further updates as discussions continue.
