Nine holes into his second round, Wyndham Clark withdrew from the Players Championship per the Golf Channel broadcast.Clark shook hands with Jordan Spieth and Danny Walker before they went on to play the back nine.Why he chose to withdraw from the tournament was not immediately made clear.PGA Tour Communications confirmed the withdrawal on X, formerly known as Twitter. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed Clark withdrew with a neck injury.The former U.S. Open champion went out in 40 on the front side after he signed for a less than impressive Even Par 72 on Thursday.On Friday, his poor play continued. Clark made a double bogey on the par-5 2nd, followed by a bogey on the third and another bogey on the par-4 5th.To make the cut, the three-time PGA Tour winner would have needed to shoot at least 5-under 31 on the back nine.Last year, Clark came close to winning The PLAYERS but ultimately finished second behind World No.1 Scottie Scheffler. The runner up finish came after his third PGA Tour win at the AT&T Pebble Beach and second place to Scheffler at Bay Hill.The 31-year-old came into this week ranked No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). In his five starts this year, he has two top 25 finishes."It's tough because sometimes your expectations get skewed either by the media or outside people," Clark said earlier in the week. "I'm just trying to get back into playing good golf and enjoying it and not raising those expectations because they have been raised a little bit.
