PETER Yagum is closely following in elder brother, Thomas Yagum’s footsteps in representing PNG on the international stage.
Yagum made his debut with the PNG side that is currently taking part in the OFC U16 Qualifying tournament in Nuku’Alofa in Tonga.
Hailing from Morobe (Markham) and Madang (Bogia), Yagum currently plays with Lae City FC on the right wing.
“I live in Markham and am currently in Grade 7 at Nariawang primary school in Markham.”
The 16-year-old said his dad (Michael Yagum) was the one that taught him how to play.
“But the Yagum family is a soccer family.
“I started playing soccer in 2015, when I was only six at the time.
“But I have always been keen to go out and play until I was old enough to play for a team.”
“I am the second in my family, after Thomas Yagum to representing the country.”
He added that he gave his best during the selections, and was so happy when he made the squad.
“My family is happy that I have made the team and I aim to do my best for PNG and the Yagum family.”
Yagum has scored four goals so far in the Championships.
He said the first game that they played against Tonga, he wasn’t nervous.
“I felt confident when I put those two goals through.
“This has encouraged me to work harder with the team.”
Yagum who did a celebratory dance that caught the eye of everyone, said that he has been practicing that routine along with his teammate.
