Yankees lose pitcher to White Sox on waivers
@Source: nj.com
Right-hander Owen White, who was designated for assignment by the Yankees last week, was claimed by the White Sox on Monday. White was removed from the Yankees’ 40-man roster to make space for lefty Brent Headrick last Tuesday. The right-hander was initially scooped up by the Yankees on waivers from the Reds on Feb. 5. He’s a former top prospect in the Rangers’ farm system, a 25-year-old with a 16.71 ERA over five big-league appearances with Texas from 2023 to 2024. White spent much of last season with Triple-A Round Rock in the Rangers' system, posting a 5.64 ERA over 29 games (15 starts). Over these last few weeks, the Yankees have been active in picking up upside arms, either adding them to the 40-man roster or welcoming them to spring training as non-roster invitees. Left-handers Tyler Matzek, Jayvien Sandridge and Rob Zastryzny were all tacked on to the Yankees' NRI list this month. This isn’t the first time the White Sox have pounced on a Yankees pitcher hitting the waiver wire either. Chicago grabbed Enyel De Los Santos last summer, a trade deadline acquisition who flopped with the Yankees and lasted only a handful of outings in pinstripes. Ron Marinaccio was also briefly in the White Sox system after the Yankees designated him for assignment last September. He was then traded to the Padres. Chicago also signed Yankees bust Joey Gallo to a minor-league deal late last week. He’ll have a chance to earn a spot with their big-league club leading up to Opening Day.
