An Inter legend has warned the club about the dangers of signing Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman As Inter’s pursuit of Ademola Lookman continues, former World Cup winner Beppe Bergomi has urged the club to reconsider how the Nigerian forward would fit into Cristian Chivu’s tactical structure. Despite Lookman’s goal-scoring pedigree, Bergomi believes that a major shift in midfield is essential to accommodate his qualities fully. Bergomi tells Inter how to set up with Lookman In a conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bergomi painted a clear picture of how Inter’s frontline could look with Lookman in the team. “Thuram on the right, Lautaro up front and Lookman on the left. You can find a team in that,” Bergomi said. Still, he stressed that Inter’s current structure would need tweaking. “I do not dispute Lookman’s value. “He is one of the best in Serie A, but if you play those three, you would have to change the set-up in midfield.” Inter’s most recent €45 million bid, including bonuses, has already been rejected by Atalanta, who are holding out for €50 million. Bergomi offers solution to Inter’s balance problem Bergomi’s biggest concern is balance. He argued that Inter must reinforce the midfield with a high-energy player if they want to accommodate a front three. “[Morten] Frendrup would be perfect,” he insisted. “He runs, covers, recovers. You need this type of player here.” He compared the Genoa man to Manu Kone and Khéphren Thuram, both known for their physicality and box-to-box roles. “In Genoa, in a two-man midfield, Frendrup has covered the whole pitch for two seasons,” he added. According to Bergomi, Lookman would add firepower, but without the right midfield profile, Inter could find themselves vulnerable unless they sign someone like Frendrup.
