Zara Tindall reveals alternative career path as husband Mike tells her to 'let it go'

Zara Tindall has revealed that she almost took a completely different career path as she sat down with husband Mike Tindall as part of his 'Mike Drop' podcast. Zara is an equestrian, Olympian, socialite and member of the British Royal Family. She is the daughter of Anne, Princess Royal, and Captain Mark Phillips and is also the eldest niece of King Charles III.
Today (May 15), on her 44th birthday, we look back at the career that she almost opted for, and the reason why her husband, Mike, 46 tells her that she needs to "let it go". As part of the conversation, Mike said: "You've always said to me you could've been a sprinter, and a swimmer, a gymnast, specialising in hurdles actually".
Zara said that she did "used to hurdle" so Mike asked: "At what point did you decide," as Zara interjected: "That that wasn't my career?" Mike continued: "[At what point did you decide] that maybe that wasn't the path, and horses were the path?"
She retorted: "I don't think I quite said that - I said, I used to be a hurdler."
Mike then quickly responded: "Let it go," as Zara giggled, continuing: "I don't know, probably when I left school".
She then said she thought she'd "try a full season" of being an equestrian to see whether she was "any good at it".
Zara shared that after her gap year, she found a "legend" of a horse, named Toytown, who sadly passed away in 2017.
She said that Toytown's "movement was incredible" saying that she "couldn't have walked away from him" when she was choosing a horse.
Zara continued to reminisce, saying that he had an "amazing personality," and he knew he was "the best".
She said that it did take a few years for him to "grow and be strong enough" to compete. "But we went from the bottom together, to the top - we were both learning," she praised.
Toytown, went on to be a champion eventing horse. Zara and he won the European Individual and Team Gold at the 2005 European Eventing Championships and the World Individual Gold in 2006.
Zara said that she'd always had a "competitive streak," but when she began winning, she wanted to go one step ahead and push herself.
She said that the "disappointment" she felt at first before Toytown was ready to compete properly drove her more than "winning straightaway".
Zara and Mike married on July 30 2011 in Edinburgh, just months after the Prince and Princess of Wales were married in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
It's reported that Zara and Mike first crossed paths in 2003 in Sydney, Australia during the Rugby World Cup. Mike was playing rugby for England at the time, while Zara was on a gap year and travelled down under with friends. The pair reportedly met at the Manly Wharf Bar and immediately hit it off.
