Blessing Malinganiza Zimpapers Sports Hub Bangladesh U19 beat Zimbabwe U19 by 91 runs in the third match of the Youth ODI triangular series at Harare Sports Club yesterday. The defeat against the Young Tigers follows the Young Chevrons’ loss to neighbors South Africa U19 in their first match. Yesterday, Zimbabwe U19 captain Simbarashe Mudzengerere elected to field after winning the toss. The skipper went on to claim two wickets for 37 runs from his 10 overs, with the duo of Brandon Senzere and Tatenda Chimugoro also taking two wickets each. However, the Asian side, buoyed by two half-centuries – 82 off 63 balls from opener Zawad Abrar and Md Abdullah’s 56 – saw Bangladesh U19 end their allotted overs on 274/8. Their captain, Azizul Hakim, scored 34 runs. Zimbabwe U19 failed to negotiate their way past the insurmountable total, with Nathaniel Hlabangana standing tall with a half-century, 53 off 72 balls, made up of eight boundaries. Apart from the Zimbabwe opener, none scored big, with Senzere weighing in with 26, Kiam and Michael Blignaut scoring 23 and 15 not out, respectively, while Brandon Ndiweni chipped in with 20 runs. Bangladesh got their wickets from Samiun Basir, with three for 14 from 8.2 overs, and Al Fad taking two wickets, together with their skipper Hakim. Bangladesh U19 lead the log standings with four points from two matches. South Africa U19 are in second place with two points, while Zimbabwe U19 anchor the log with no points. Meanwhile, Loreen Tshuma’s four-wicket haul was in vain as Ireland Women completed a 2-0 series clean sweep over Zimbabwe Women, with a four-wicket victory in final ODI at Stormont Cricket Ground in Belfast yesterday.
