Olympic champion Beatrice Chebet is ready to go for the 5000m world record, after running the second fastest time in history at Rome Diamond League. Following her impeccable performance in Rome, where she clocked the second-fastest time in history, Beatrice Chebet is confident in her ability to attain new heights by breaking the World Record (WR) and running under the sub-14s mark. The double Paris Olympics champion sped to a jaw-dropping 14:03.69 to win the Rome Diamond League women's 5000m event, which is the second-fastest time in history. With her outstanding time, Chebet broke the Kenyan National Record set by Faith Kipyegon when she ran a then WR of 14:05.20 and now stands a great chance of becoming the first woman to go under sub-14:00 mark. Speaking after the race, the 25-year-old revealed she's capable of breaking Gudaf Tsegay's WR of 14:00.21 and will start working towards it. "I'm going to run my WR because I'm feeling the body is in a good shape so I have to try to see how far I can go when I push alone," said Chebet in an interview with Citius Mag. "The pacemaker dropped at 2000m, so I said let me push and see what I'm capable of because our target was 14:15, but after running 14:05, a personal best and a meeting record, I'm so impressed. So I see a WR is capable and I'm going to plan for it," she added. Chebet's solo performance inspired most of the rest of the field to new heights of personal bests and national records, as Freweyni Hailu was second in a PB of 14:19.33, while Nadia Battocletti smashed her own Italian Record in 14:23.15 for third. The Kenyan queen also has her eyes set on running under sub-14:00 to become the first woman to achieve such a feat. "Yes, very soon and I'm going for it soon. Because after running 3000m in Rabat and coming here and running 14:05 and yet I planned for 14:15, I see that I'm capable. The body is moving so I just go back home and prepare for it," she said. In Paris last summer, Chebet became the third woman in history to win gold medals in the 5000m and 10000m at the same Olympic games. She started her season at the Rabat Diamond Lague last week, running the fastest recognised 3000m time all-time of 8:11.56.
