Aaron Boone's ejection vs. Astros isn't a good look for manager's future

Apparently, the rant didn't inspire his players. The Astros crushed the Yankees 7-1. Houston shortstop Carlos Correa, whom they reunited with before the trade deadline, went 2-for-5 at the plate with one home run and one RBI. New York is now 62-56 and has lost seven of its last 10 games. Entering Sunday, the Yankees were third in the American League East behind the Boston Red Sox (65-53) and Toronto Blue Jays (68-50). Boone was already facing criticism from former Yankees captain Graig Nettles for being too easy on players. The manager could face even more scrutiny after the ejection. In a story published Saturday, Boone told the New York Post's Ethan Sears he has been contacting former Yankees manager Joe Torre amid the team's rough patch. "He's kind of hanging on everything with us, so we've had a lot of contact back and forth, text messages, things like that," Boone said of the four-time World Series champion. "[Yankees public relations head Jason] Zillo reminded me of that 2000 team, I think ended up losing 15 of 18 at some point, won [87] games and then caught fire and went on that run. So we're hoping for that kind of run." The 2000 Yankees won the World Series after that run. Boone, who hasn't won a championship in eight seasons with the team, may need his club to do the same to get off the hot seat.
