New York, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay al-Dahhak, affirmed that the Syrian government stresses its categorical rejection of any attempts to disintegrate Syria and the of exploitation of any events to impose destructive foreign agendas. Syria also continues its efforts to preserve civil peace and restore stability in the country.
Ambassador Al-Dahhak said in a statement during a UN Security Council session on Syria in New York on Thursday: “Syria reiterates its call for the Security Council to condemn the repeated Israeli aggressions that violate its sovereignty and threaten regional and international peace and security, and to compel the occupying authorities to withdraw their forces from Syrian territory, which they have penetrated over the past months, and to end their occupation of the Syrian Golan.”
“The Syrian government continues its efforts to restore security and stability, improve the living and humanitarian conditions of Syrians across the country, and addresses the complex challenges it faces. This comes after long years of war that have exhausted the Syrian people, weakened their capabilities, destroyed the country’s infrastructure and economy, and left behind painful suffering that has affected all Syrians,” al-Dahhak said.
“The past period has witnessed practical steps towards recovery and the establishment of promising economic partnerships that will advance towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Syria looks forward to continued positive international engagement and constructive support for it and its people during this critical phase the country is experiencing.”
Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations added: “Syria reiterates its call for the Security Council to condemn the Israeli aggressions, compel the occupying authorities to withdraw their forces from the Syrian territories they have penetrated over the past months, and end their occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights in accordance with relevant UN resolutions, most notably Resolutions 242, 338, and 497.”
“We regret that the presidential statement adopted by the Security Council on the 10th of August lacked any condemnation of the recent Israeli aggressions on the vicinity of the Presidential Palace and the General Staff headquarters in Damascus.” “In light of the release of the International Investigation Commission’s report on the painful events witnessed in the Syrian coastal region, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates sent an official letter to the Chairman of the Commission, expressing appreciation for the efforts made in preparing the report, and the points it contains that are consistent with the relevant conclusions of the Independent National Commission.”
“The Foreign Minister also stressed the Syrian government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and constructive cooperation with the international community. He also emphasized the government’s determination to build national institutions based on justice and the rule of law, and welcomed the commission’s conclusion that there was no government policy to commit crimes, but rather that orders had been issued to prevent them and restore discipline. He indicated that the commission’s recommendations, along with those of the Independent National Commission, would constitute a roadmap for promoting justice and continuing Syria’s progress despite the challenges. He affirmed continued cooperation with the commission and the international community on the basis of full respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations said: “Efforts are on to preserve civil peace, restore stability, and enhance humanitarian access to all affected people continue today, in cooperation with UN agencies and humanitarian partners. Numerous humanitarian aid convoys have been dispatched in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent to Daraa and Sweida, and visits by UN delegations to those areas have been facilitated to assess needs and work to meet them.”
Al-Dahhak said, “The Syrian government affirms its absolute rejection of attempts to divide Syria or exploit any events to advance destructive foreign agendas. It also affirms its rejection of any unilateral steps that do not contribute to healing the rift and achieving national reconciliation, nor are inconsistent with the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.”
