Australia expels Iranian ambassador over evidence Iran directed antisemitic attacks – video
Prime minister Anthony Albanese tells reporters in Canberra that Iran's ambassador is being expelled from Australia and the country's intelligence agency has evidence that the Iranian government directed at least two antisemitic attacks in the community since 7 October 2023. 'They were attempts to undermine social cohesion and sow discord in our community,' Albanese says. 'It is totally unacceptable, and the Australian government is taking strong and decisive action in response.' The Iranian ambassador to Australia, Ahmad Sadeghi, has been designated 'persona non grata' and Australia’s embassy in Tehran has suspended operations. Albanese also says Australia will list Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC, as a terrorist organisation in response to Asio’s investigation
