Alumni report: Former OLP slugger leads Ducks into NCAA Regionals

The NCAA Division I softball playoffs get underway Friday at 16 sites across the country. There are 28 players with San Diego ties on 13 teams of the 64 playoff teams. Oregon boasts five locals, with a senior and freshman leading the way. Dezianna Patmon (Patrick Henry), a transfer from North Carolina A&T, is hitting .297 with eight homers and 25 RBIs for the Ducks (47-7), who host Weber State in a regional that also includes Stanford and Binghamton. Freshman right fielder Stefini Ma’ake is hitting .338 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs in 45 games. Ma’ake was an all-state player last season at Our Lady of Peace, hitting .603 with 13 homers and 46 RBIs. Pitcher Staci Chambers (Granite Hills), a transfer from Cal State Fullerton, where she was an all-conference player, is back from an injury. In 12 games, she’s 2-0 with a save. Ayanna Shaw, a redshirt freshman outfielder, is hitting. 434 with nine RBIs in 38 players. Shaw was a three-time All-CIF player at Mater Dei Catholic. Sophomore infielder Abby Steffen (Eastlake) has played in 11 games for the Ducks. More softball Indiana Langford (Poway) leads Michigan (38-17) into the playoffs, hitting .409. The Wolverines play Central Florida in Austin. • Cydney Sanders (San Marcos) is hitting .304 with 11 homers and 39 RBIs in 48 games for Oklahoma (45-7), which plays Boston University in Norman. Sanders, a senior first baseman, started her career at Arizona State. • Kyra Chan (Torrey Pines), a junior outfielder, is hitting .411 with 10 homers and leads Stanford (40-11) with 58 RBIs. Ava Gall (El Capitan), a sophomore catcher, is hitting .324 with a pair of homers and 11 RBIs in 14 games. Stanford plays Binghamton in Eugene. • Angel Riggins (Helix), a sophomore utility player, and Maryn Jordan (Valhalla), a junior outfielder, are starring for Howard (31-18), which plays Duke in Durham. Riggins is hitting .339 with 16 RBIs and nine doubles in 48 games. Jordan is hitting .307 with a homer in 41 games. • Senior infielder Seneca Curo (Ramona) is hitting .191 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 42 games for UCLA (49-10). Sofia Mujica (Granite Hills), a freshman catcher, has seven homers and 33 RBIs in 46 games for the Bruins, who play UC Santa Barbara in Los Angeles. • Pitcher Ava Bradford (Ranch Buena Vista) is 2-4 in 17 games for UC Santa Barbara. • Kaitlyn Farley (La Costa Canyon), a senior infielder, is playing a big role for Ohio State (43-12). She’s hitting .329 with a pair of homers, 12 doubles, 12 RBIs and 49 runs in 56 games. Cadyn Ruffer (Valhalla), a sophomore infielder, is hitting .265 with two homers and 11 RBIs in 23 games. Emma Tulley (Carlsbad), a sophomore catcher, has played in 16 games and is hitting .154 with two homers. The Buckeyes play North Carolina in Knoxville. • Pitcher Lexi Sosa (Mater Dei Catholic), a transfer from UCLA, is 3-1 with a pair of saves in 16 appearances for Mississippi State, which plays Washington in Lubbock. • Pitcher Sophia Ramuno (Helix) is 10-5 with a 2.16 ERA in 30 games for Washington. She has walked just 22 batters in 110 innings with 138 strikeouts. • Brown (33-14) is banking on a trio of local players in its game against Texas Tech in Lubbock. Pitcher/first baseman Alexis Guevara (Bonita Vista) is hitting .247 with 10 RBIs in 35 games, and is 20-7 to lead the club. She has a 1.75 ERA with 19 complete games and 160 strikeouts in 180 innings. Laurel Moody (Carlsbad) leads the team in batting average (.326), home runs (15) and RBIs (41). Cameron Zytkewicz (Mission Hills) is hitting .286 with four homers, eight doubles and 23 RBIs in 45 games. • Kaiah Altmeyer (Patrick Henry), a junior utility player, is hitting .348 with four homers and 49 RBIs for Arizona (45-11), which plays Santa Clara in Tucson. She leads the Wildcats with 17 doubles. Paige Dimler (Rancho Buena Vista), a senior outfielder, is hitting .417 with a pair of homers and 22 RBIs for Arizona. • Audrey Bergen (La Jolla Country Day) leads Gettysburg College into the NCAA Division III Regionals. She leads the Bullets, hitting .479. Gettysburg hosts John Jay, MIT and Ramapo. Aztecs stars San Diego State (35-17) plays Arizona State in Los Angeles. Jazmin Williams (Steele Canyon), a sophomore infielder, is hitting .296 with five homers, 12 doubles and 12 steals in 51 games for the Aztecs. Jade Ignacio (El Camino), a sophomore catcher, is hitting .296 with a homer, 10 doubles and 14 RBIs in 45 games. Utility player Olivia Gigante (Patrick Henry) is hitting .211 in 18 games. Ryan Langborg (La Jolla Country Day), who played basketball at Princeton and Northwestern, has signed to play with London 3×3, which competes on the FIBA 3×3 World Tour. • Former UCLA pitcher Megan Faraimo (Cathedral Catholic) was drafted by the Talons of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. • Sami Francis (La Jolla Country Day), an All-American at Stanford, is playing professional volleyball for LOVB Omaha. • Gianna Creighton (West Hills), who played at UC Irvine, has signed to play soccer with the Halifax Tides of the Northern Super League.
