Solana Beach Children’s Spring Festival and Egg Hunt A free Children’s Spring Festival & Egg Hunt is at 10:30 a.m. April 19 at La Colonia Park, 715 Valley Ave. Children in third grade and younger can collect eggs filled with treats and prizes. Climate Symposium The Del Mar Climate Symposium, “Coastal Climate Threats to our Community,” is from 6 to 9 p.m. April 22 at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino Del Mar. Local experts will discuss extreme weather, including the Santa Ana winds, the geology of the local coastal hillside, effects that might occur and actions residents can take to prepare and adapt. Music fest and run Night Nation Run is on April 19 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., and is billed as a blend of a Music Festival and a Fun Run. Del Mar Community Cleanup The Del Mar Village Association hosts a Keep Del Mar Green cleanup event from 10 to 11:30 a.m. April 19 for Earth Month. The event also celebrates the installation of six new coastal water bottle fill stations in Del Mar. The free event starts and ends at the 17th Street Lifeguard Headquarters and will conclude with a pancake brunch hosted by the Del Mar lifeguards after the brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. Better Buzz Del Mar will provide coffee and pastries for cleanup volunteers. There will be a DJ and music. Chef Chris Bianco visits Rancho Valencia for culinary series Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa will host the next installment of its guest chef culinary series on Thursday, April 24 with James Beard Award-winning chef Chris Bianco. The chef behind the Phoenix and LA-based Pizzeria Bianco, Bar Bianco, Tratto and Pane Bianco will serve up his signature style of Italian cuisine and artisanal pizzas at the Rancho Santa Fe resort. The dinner, a partnership with Baja Wine + Food, will be held in the outdoor culinary garden, a scenic setting featuring open fire grills and ovens. The night includes live music by ElectricLouieLand Trio, art installations from artist Gennaro Garcia and premium Baja wines from Don Camillo Magoni to pair with Bianco’s menu. San Diego Opera presents Verdi’s ‘La traviata’ San Diego Opera will close its 2025 season April 25-27 with Giuseppe Verdi’s classical operatic tragedy. Recognized as the most produced opera in the world, “La traviata” (an Italian phrase for “the fallen woman”) is based on Alexandre Dumas’ play and novel “La Dame aux Camélias.” It’s the story of Violetta, a Parisian courtesan who finds true love with a young man, Alfredo. But when Violetta’s reputation spoils Alfredo’s sister’s chance for a respectable marriage, Violetta sacrifices her happiness and her health. Canadian soprano Andriana Chuchman (Micaëla in 2017’s “The Tragedy of Carmen”) will star as Violetta. Historic Downtown Encinitas Walking Tour The Encinitas Historical Society offers this fun educational tour on the third Saturday of every month with more varied walking paths. The tours start at the 1883 One-Room Schoolhouse, located at 390 West F Street. There is plenty of free parking available. On April 19, the tour will concentrate on the north end of historic Coast Highway. Next month, on May 17, the tour will cover the south end of the Coast Highway. This alternating of the route ensures that the tour can be covered the distance in a slower, leisurely, and more personal fashion, a news release stated.The Encinitas Historical Society has implemented a suggested donation of $10 per person, and is an all-volunteer organization with tax exempt status. Bike Anywhere Day aims to alleviate traffic and reduce air pollution while promoting biking as a fun, sustainable, and healthy transportation choice, according to a news release.
