The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has committed to making golf one of the leading sports in Ghana.
As it stands, football is the West African country’s favourite sport. However, the King intends to change the narrative, putting efforts into advocacy for golf.
Speaking at a Dinner and Dance event to culminate the Telecel 68th Asantehene Open Golf Championship on June 14, 2025, His Majesty said his advocacy had begun in his home, where he is relentlessly persuading one of his granddaughters to join it.
According to Otumfuo, the lady is a medical doctor with an interest in table tennis. Notwithstanding that, the King expressed optimism that she would soon join the sport through persistence.
Meanwhile, Otumfuo said his wife and all his children play golf, adding that it gratifies him.
“I will do everything to make Golf a leading game in Ghana.”
Analysing the benefit of the sport, Otumfuo said it was his secret to his youthful appearance.
"I hear people say they are not sure whether I'm 75. I am according to the date of birth my mother gave me."
