Ademola Lookman could be replaced at Atalanta by a Ghanaian winger who impressed in the Premier League last season Atalanta are reportedly closing in on the signing of Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana from Southampton in a deal worth up to €21 million. This move could serve as a contingency plan with star forward Ademola Lookman drawing heavy transfer interest from clubs like Napoli and Barcelona. Sulemana deal nears completion as Juric eyes attacking reinforcements According to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta and Southampton are finalising an agreement that will see Kamaldeen Sulemana make a permanent switch to Bergamo. The total package is expected to be worth €21 million, with €17 million up front and €4 million in bonuses. Southampton will also retain a 15% sell-on clause. Sulemana, who joined the Saints from Stade Rennes in January 2023 for €25 million, is seen as a key addition by new Atalanta boss Ivan Juric. The pair briefly worked together during Juric’s stint in England, and now they could reunite in Serie A. Despite a modest return of two goals and three assists across 30 appearances for Southampton this past season, Sulemana remains a highly rated talent with room to grow. His arrival comes as Atalanta reshape their squad under Juric following Gian Piero Gasperini’s departure after nine years in charge. Lookman on the radar of European giants Napoli and Barcelona While Atalanta move forward with plans for Sulemana, all eyes remain on the future of Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian forward, fresh off a 20-goal season, is being strongly pursued by Serie A champions Napoli, who are preparing a €50 million bid. Atalanta, however, are holding out for at least €60 million. Lookman, whose contract runs until 2026, is said to be open to a move this summer, especially with UEFA Champions League football on offer elsewhere. Barcelona are also in the mix, with boss Hansi Flick reportedly pushing for the signing as part of a cost-effective squad rebuild.
